What do the charges actually cost you?

Charges are quoted as a small annual percentage. Over a working life they compound into a figure most people never see. Put your own numbers in below.

Use the TER if you have it. It captures more of the cost.

100% means every euro goes in. 95% means 5% is taken off each contribution.

Against leaving it on deposit

Deposit interest is subject to DIRT, which this figure does not deduct. Money inside a pension grows without Irish income tax, DIRT or capital gains tax, so the two are not like for like.

How this is worked out

  • Growth is applied monthly at the rate you enter, before charges.
  • The annual management charge is taken monthly as one twelfth of the yearly rate, applied to the fund value.
  • The allocation rate is applied to the starting amount and to every contribution.
  • Contributions are treated as arriving at the end of each month.
  • Reduction in yield is the flat annual return that, with no charges at all, would leave you with the same final figure.

Real products vary. Some use bid and offer spreads, early exit penalties or fee structures that change over the term, and none of that is modelled here. Check the key features document and the fund factsheet for the product you are actually looking at.
